Underground

This award-winning film is set in Yugoslavia, and spans 50 years. During World War II, a group of partisans take refuge in a cellar, and set up a weapons factory. A colleague above ground convinces them that the war is still on, and keeps them hidden underground, while making a fortune selling the weapons they produce. Life goes on underground, including weddings and deaths. Eventually, after 50 years, they escape the cellar, to a changed world - everything is new, yet it is still at war. The film alternates between humour and pathos, and is a social commentary on war.
