U-571

This film is loosely based on several real events during World War II, woven into one story. An American submarine is given the task of capturing a German encryption device from a German submarine (u-boat). Things initially go according to plan, until the heroes are sunk and forced to switch to the German sub they have just raided. And then their problems really start, as the young, ambitious naval officer learns the hard way just what it takes to command a submarine.

Ian Douglas: Very gripping drama. Way better than ''The Perfect Storm''. The script is well written, and we feel for the characters, even though it does not spend nearly as much time introducing them as ''Storm'' did. Don't let the war or underwater setting put you off, I was not looking forward to it because just thinking about subs makes me claustrophobic, but it is so good that those feelings work to ''put you in the picture''. The recent business with the downed Russian sub also becomes a lot more real and personal. Go see it.

Bailey Newton (15): Very exciting and interesting. Perfect actors for the characters.

Paresh Bhima (25): One of the best movies I've seen this year.

Jodi Rosenthal (20): I like history and I like it best when it is not distorted in the name of film-making. This film is highly enjoyable, the cast is great, specifically the younger members, and the action is never unnecessary. After viewing the film, I decided that in order to fully appreciate a director's vision, one must be as objective as possible. This being said, the movie rocked. The scenes in the submarine are by far the best I have ever seen. Very realistic.

Dion Scher (26): A really gripping submarine movie for lovers of shows like Crimson Tide and Hunt for Red October.
