Water

The third in the ''Elements'' series (Fire, Earth, Water, Air) by director Deepa Mehta is set in 1938. At the time, widows were sent away to special homes for widows, when their husbands died. Child marriages were also still rife, so when our heroine, an 8-year-old widow is told she will be sent away for the rest of her life, it is something that she cannot fathom. At the home, she makes friends with the women around her. Luckily, Mahatma Gandi is busy working against the practice, offering her a glimmer of hope. In Hindi language with English subtitles.
