Bride Wars

Even best friends can't share the same wedding day.

Bride Wars
Two young women have been best friends since childhood. They've fantasied over their ideal wedding, and both want to get married in the same venue. When both their boyfriends duly get around to proposing, the gals hire the same wedding planner. Unfortunately someone makes a mistake and double-books them both for the only available slot at their chosen venue. Suddenly the gloves are off and the claws are out, as the two friends find themselves competing for the wedding slot. Each is determined to win, and to sabotage the other's wedding. The critics were not impressed.

Roger Ebert quote iconIs there anyone old enough to care about weddings and naive enough to believe ''Bride Wars''? Here is a sitcom about consumerism, centering on two bubble-brained women and their vacuous fiances, and providing them with not a single line that is smart or witty.

Peter Travers quote iconThe first big-studio movie released in 2009 has a damn fine chance of being the worst. Bride Wars isn't just chick-flick hell for guys, it should numb the skulls of moviegoers of all sexes and ages.

C. Fuchs quote iconAlthough the film — via the last scene — threatens a sequel I've already deemed ''Baby Wars,'' I simply wish more labor had been put into the conception and execution of the wedding battle leading up to it.
