Surrogates

How do you save humanity when the only thing that's real is you?

Surrogates
Set in the future, technology has progressed to the point where everyone has a robotic version of themselves, which they send into the real world to work and do things, while they sit at home and control it remotely. When an avatar is killed, and its human counterpart also dies, the FBI send in two (robotic) agents. However something goes wrong, and the main investigator finds himself venturing into the real world amongst all the robots, to solve the crime. Meanwhile his wife is at home becoming increasingly emotionally distant ...

Box Office
Mark Keizer quote iconAs a cautionary tale, the movie has much to say; it just chooses not to say it. What’s left is a passable, reasonably intriguing springboard for action.
8
Chicago Sunday Times
Roger Ebert quote iconSurrogates is entertaining and ingenious, but it settles too soon for formula.

eye Weekly
Stuart Berman quote iconMovies as formulaic as this one leave us with little choice but to stay at home and download something better off the internet.
5
ScreenIt
C. Fuchs quote iconWhile it isn't a horrible film, it just can't escape feeling that it's an artificial version of the real thing, where the faux elements stand out just enough to point that out to viewers who will likely discuss such matters with others via Facebook, Twitter and elsewhere rather than in person. Let's just hope they're not seated next to their friends or spouses while doing so.

Tomatometer quote iconThough it sports a slick look and feel, Surrogates fails to capitalize on a promising premise, relying instead on mindless action and a poor script.
