The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

She's coming.

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo
I guess Hollywood thought there was money to be made remaking the perfectly excellent Swedish trilogy, the first episode of which has now arrived. The script is taken directly from the book, rather than the Swedish films. A disgruntled journalist is hired by an ageing businessman to investigate the disappearance of his niece forty years ago. The journalist eventually hooks up with a young female computer hacker, who brings considerable baggage of her own along, while their investigation points to people in high places with deep secrets they would prefer remain buried.

153 minutes.
No persons under 16 (Sex, Nudity, Violence).

Cape Argus / The Star
David Germain quote iconThis film captures the coldness of the climate and remoteness of the northern Sweden countryside in a tactile fashion to complement the frosty and distant nature of the characters. This film deserves an encore.

C. Fuchs quote iconBy the time everything is resolved (and the villain explains his motivation while torturing the hero, yada-yada-yada) this ends up being a frustrating, mixed bag experience.
