Young Adult

Everyone gets old. Not everyone grows up.

Young Adult
A young woman in her early thirties, a successful ghost writer of teen angst novels, decides to return to her home town to reclaim her high school boyfriend, completely ignoring the fact that he is already happy in his life with his wife and new baby. Utterly self-centred, she goes all out to win him back, slowly slipping back into her teenage ways as he remains resolutely out of reach. Her life is clearly a mess while his is on track, and even hooking up with someone she ignored in high school fails to open her eyes.

Box Office
Kate Erbland quote iconCody's snappy, spot-on writing and Reitman's clear-eyed direction should suit audiences looking for a black-as-night dramedy with bite, making the film a likely hit amongst the younger arthouse and indie crowd.

C. Fuchs quote iconI felt this comes in below the standards the filmmaker set with Juno and certainly Up in the Air.

Rottentomatoes tomatometer
Tomatometer quote iconDespite its somewhat dour approach, Young Adult is a funny and ultimately powerful no-holds-barred examination of prolonged adolescence, thanks largely to a convincing performance by Charlize Theron.
