Gina Gallagher, a beautiful young federal prosecutor in Chigago, becomes the target of a retaliatory assassination plot by Colombian narcotics traffickers. The hitman sent to kill Gina miss their opportunity but brutally murder Gina's junior trial partner and his wife instead. The murders remind Gina of the way she became prosecutor: When she was a girl, an armed robber killed her father, a Chigago policeman.Gina is determined to run the investigation into the two murders, but U.S. Attorney John Malone and his first assistant, Jane Newhart, won't allow it. They are afraid that Gina will find out that they failed to act on a tip off that there would be an attempted hit on a prosecutor; Gina soon finds herself confronted with a painful choice between justice and law.
