This week's art house release, described as 'one of the most beautiful films ever made'. Another Chinese film starring Gong Li, who seems to be the only female star in China..
The complex plot, set in the 1920, involves a gang member who is sent back to the house where he grew up, to seduce the family head as a prelude to kidnapping and extortion. However things don't work out quite so well, as old family memories are dredged up.
The film is still banned in China for the sex and drug scenes. Chinese with English subtitles.
