8mmA discreet private investigator is hired by a wealthy widow to investigate the contents of a film which she found in her late husband's safe. It is a snuff video (for those that don't know, snuff movies are movies in which someone actually dies on film, often violently) and shows the torture and death of a young woman. The widow wants to find out if the girl actually did die in the film. With the help of a porn store assistant, our hero descends into the dark side of the porn film industry. The American critics were generally underwhelmed, although I didn't think it was so bad. 123 minutes, No persons under 16 (Violence). Thriller.

David Van Rensburg: Disturbing in a way, don't recommend for weak people, but I found it really really good!
Ester Kleynhans: A little disturbing, but it shows the 'under' world as it is - very realistic. It takes drama to new heights. I just didn't like the wife's role, it was so common.
Robert Haynes: Trust auntie Joel Schumacher to take a potentially stunning idea and water it down for a mainstream audience. Cage sleepwalks through yet another role and the films only saving grace is Phoenix as the pretty boy porn store clerk. Some creepy moments but could have been so much more. Palpable mainstream mush...Schumacher used to be able to flirt with the darkside. The old queen obviously lost her touch!
Gert Booysen: Disturbing. Gives you a wake up call of what is going on in the darker side of life.
