The Libertine

This costume farce, set in 18th century France, focuses on the production of the world's first encyclopaedia. The church and state had both banned the production and distribution of the tome, but its author was not deterred. Hiding out with some friends on a country estate, he continues writing and printing the work, while dealing with his wife, numerous mistresses, his randy daughter and a pesky bishop.
