Gangs of New York

Set mostly in 1862, New York, this is a violent tale of revenge with a strong historical backdrop. There were waves of Irish immigrants arriving in America, which did not sit well with the locals. At the same time, the civil war was starting to influence their lives in unpleasant ways. In the Bronx, a hotbed of crime, these forces came together with violent results. A young man, released from a reformatory, returns to deal with his father's killer. He worms his way into the killer's close circle, determined for a dramatic finale, but things don't go quite according to plan...
