The Statement

This film takes a look at the aftermath of what some Frenchmen did during World War II. The lead character was a French officer who ordered seven Jews executed. After the war, his network of contacts, especially in the church, kept him out of trouble for his crime. Now, in the present, he is almost assassinated, and also becomes the target of an investigation into his wartime activities. He tries to go underground to avoid the pair of investigators on his heels, seeking refuge with his estranged wife, and help from his wartime connections.
