Talk to Me

The truth just is

Talk to Me
This biopic is based on the life of a famous American DJ. Discovered while in prison, he wangled his way into a prime-time morning slot, and soon developed a devoted following. Set in the turbulent 1960s, history was being made all around him. Things came to a head when Martin Luther King was shot, and the DJ used his influence and oratory skill the next morning to help calm emotions and prevent rioting.

Tiisetso Tlelima quote iconTalk To Me has all the ingredients that make a good movie: brilliant actors and a thought-provoking story-line that's relevant to our lives. But Lemmons' second-rate direction kills the show.
10
BBC
Paul Arendt quote iconA traditionally handsome biopic bursting with 1960s period detail and firecracker performances, Talk To Me tackles one of the most volatile periods in American history, but tragically finds nothing interesting to say about it.

Chicago Sunday Times
Roger Ebert quote iconDon Cheadle gives a fascinating performance as a man able to step out of a cell and into a broadcast booth, but not sure where to step next.
18
eye Weekly
quote iconThough the film's adherence to biopic conventions makes some scenes stodgily predictable, Talk to Me is continually energized by the calibre of the lead performances and its vivid portrayal of a pivotal period in African-American history.
10
ScreenIt
quote iconA blast to watch in the first half but a bit less so as the second hurriedly progresses from one episodic moment to the next, the film -- fueled by strong, award-worthy performances from its two leads -- should introduce a whole new set of eyes and ears to the words, wisdom and style of one of talk radio's trailblazers.
