Never Back Down

Never Back Down
''The Karate Kid'' did so well that they remade it twice (as sequels) and now it's back again, updated for the internet generation. Our hero is a teen with a volatile temper that gets him into trouble. Naturally he goes off pop against his new school's bully, and is soundly beaten. As luck would have it, he is introduced to a Mixed Martial Arts master, who teaches him physical and mental skills, by which time we're set for the inevitable rematch against the bully.

110 minutes.

Matt McNally quote iconA teen martial arts movie so inane it makes its obvious progenitor, The Karate Kid, look like something written by Confucius himself.

eye Weekly
Jason Anderson quote iconhough Never Back Down’s blend of teen melodrama and slickly packaged violence can make for queasy viewing, the charismatic cast, strong fight choreography and smarter-than-necessary script give the movie a competitive edge.

James Berardinelli quote iconThis movie isn't bad just because it follows a formula slavishly but because it does so without verve or passion.

quote iconFor short term memory audiences who won't recognize the films it rips off, Never Back Down rigidly follows its title in terms of making sure every cliché is covered.
