Season of the Witch

Not all souls can be saved.

Season of the Witch
This movie has had a tough reception from the critics. In essence a ''Western road trip'' where the sheriffs haul the baddie to justice, but set in the middle ages during the crusades and Black Death. Our two heroes realise, after twelve years of murder, that the Crusades are a bad idea, and decide to head home. They're roped into transporting a young woman, allegedly a witch, to a monastery where she will be given a fair trial and executed, thus hopefully ending the Black Plague, since she of course was responsible for it. Naturally the trip turns out to be a lot more eventful than they had counted on.

Adam Nayman quote iconThe sight of Nicolas Cage dressed up as a 14th-century knight is inherently funny, but there are almost no laughs to be had in Season of the Witch.
1
ReelViews
James Berardinelli quote iconSeason of the Witch teeters on the edge of slipping into the ''so bad it's good'' camp, but ultimately ends up being merely bad, and an early contender for a place on the 2011 Bottom 10 list.

Rolling Stone
Peter Travers quote iconThe real plague is the movie, a sci-fi hodgepodge of bad history and worse special effects.

C. Fuchs quote iconWhile it's not the worst thing I've ever seen, it's certainly far closer to that end of the spectrum as compared to the more desirable and pleasurable one.
