What the Critics say

Cape Argus / The Star
Hollywood Reporter quote iconGuilty-fun exorcist flick
10
Cape Times
Christy Lemire quote iconSuspense with a smile
10
Box Office
Pam Grady quote iconWith a perfectly scary setup, a bang up opening and a great cast, Insidious could have been something special: a horror movie that actually horrifies without resorting to gore. Instead, thanks to too many cheap jokes and a bit of silly music, it falls short.
10
Chicago Sunday Times
Roger Ebert quote iconInsidious is an affectionate visit to the Haunted House Movie, a genre that seems classic in contrast to Queasy-Cam gorefests.
13
eye Weekly
Martin Morrow quote iconWhile the early part of the movie achieves a genuinely ominous vibe, the mood vanishes like a ghost as soon as the plot descends into paranormal hokum.
5
ScreenIt
C. Fuchs quote iconWhile Insidious has its moments, I just wish the third act had been tighter, wiser and kept our imagination in play rather than spoon-feeding us the obvious and not as truly frightening scares.
