Man of Steel

Man of Steel
Warner reboots Superman again, with some inputs from Dark Knight wunderkind Chris Nolan. The basic storyline generally follows the expected introductary arc, but the timeline is juggled and there are a few adaptations. With his home planet Krypton about to be destroyed, a father sends his son away in a spaceship, which eventually lands on Earth. A farming couple raises the boy, who gradually learns of his super powers. When grown to manhood, the baddie from Krypton arrives, intent on destroying Earth, and it's up to Superman to see off the threat. Note that this movie is far more violent than previous installments. The film is releasing in both 2D and 3D, this is the 2D (recommended) version.

James Berardinelli quote iconMan of Steel delivers forcefully on its promise to take Superman in a different direction.

Peter Travers quote icon Caught in the slipstream between action and angst, Man of Steel is a bumpy ride for sure. But there's no way to stay blind to its wonders.

ScreenIt
C. Fuchs quote iconWhen viewed on its own, it's an okay superhero flick and fits in with many of its recent rock 'em, sock 'em contemporaries. Yet, it pales considerably when compared to the 1978 film that may have featured more primitive effects, but certainly had a far greater cast, a much better and more interesting story, and still stands as the best, true to its origins comic book adaptation ever made.

Tomatometer quote iconSuperman's return to the big screen is mostly successful, as Man of Steel provides enough exhilarating action and spectacle to overcome its occasional detours into generic blockbuster territory.
