The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones

Two worlds will collide

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones
Based on the first in a series of popular teen novels, we retread 'Moonlight Saga' territory, which requires you to accept werewolves, demons and vampires as real. A young woman learns, after her mother disappears, that she is part of a clan of Shadowhunters, who go about killing the previously mentioned nasties. The main baddie has kidnapped her mom, and now it's up to our plucky heroine and her friends to sort things out. Reviews have not been good, and there is speculation that the remaining books will not be filmed.

What the Critics say

ScreenIt
C. Fuchs quote iconSince it's already about as 'mashed' as they come, I'm not sure this film will get a similar treatment of its own somewhere down the line, but there's no denying you've seen this offering, or at least its various pieces, in lots of other earlier films.

Tomatometer quote iconThe Mortal Instruments: City of Bones borrows ingredients from seemingly every fantasy franchise of the last 30 years -- but can't seem to figure out what to do with them.
