Exodus: Gods and Kings (3D)

Once Brothers, Now Enemies

Exodus: Gods and Kings (3D)
Hollywood continues its revisions of famous Biblical stories with this version of the Jewish exodus from Egypt under Moses. We follow the familiar story of Moses' birth and adoption into the royal household, until he discovers his true identity and starts getting instructions from God about leading the Hebrews. This sets up the conflict between Moses and Rameses, leading first to the 10 plagues and then their dramatic escape. The critics have generally praised the CGI while slating everything else. This film is releasing in both 2D and 3D, this is the 3D version.

What the Critics say

ReelViews
James Berardinelli quote iconIn some ways, it's like Noah, in that a more secular interpretation of a Bible story has resulted in some bizarre choices. But this is sloppier than Noah and that's hard to forgive, especially from a director of Scott's stature. Exodus is far from the worst movie of 2014, but it may be the year's most disappointing.

C. Fuchs quote iconI can't say I was ever overly bored and certainly didn't detest what's offered. Yet, the fact that much of it feels slightly off, doesn't gel into a cohesive whole, and never emotionally engaged me means Exodus: Gods and Kings rates as just a 4 out of 10.

Tomatometer quote iconWhile sporadically stirring, and suitably epic in its ambitions, Exodus: Gods and Kings can't quite live up to its classic source material.
