What the Critics say
Michael O'Sullivan Spirit of 'The Lion King'.
Gabi Zietsman It’s funny how this Lion King replicates almost every word and scene of the original but still fails so dismally. None of the songs were great revisions (except of course Hakuna Matata) and even Mufasa’s death - the scene that holds everything together - didn’t get a single tear from me. And that’s probably the biggest travesty of them all.
Tomatometer While it can take pride in its visual achievements,The Lion King is a by-the-numbers retelling that lacks the energy and heart that made the original so beloved -- though for some fans that may just be enough.
Sandie Angulo Chen Visually stunning remake is darker, more violent.
