ViolenceFrequent, mild to moderate impact, fantastical action violence within a sci-fi context. Violence is often fantastical and unrealistic, of combat and battle between humans, and fantastical creatures, in the outer galaxies. Violence includes sword fighting (Sabre) fighting in the desert, vehicular chases by space-ships firing automatic weapons, shooting with laser guns and machine-gun fire, Mandolonians being blown up into the sky, revenge attacks between the human team and their allies fighting against the phantom emperor and his Sith army, intergalactic warfare with spaceships and drones filling up the skies, Rey fights against forces that are distracting her from her cause.

CommentsSTAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER is a futuristic, fantasy, Sci Fi thriller following the adventures of the crew aboard the Millennium Falcon in yet another epic adventure of intergalactic warfare.
THEMES
Fantastical and futuristic themes of intergalactic warfare between good and evil, the an alternate reality of humans co-existing with fantastical creatures and inanimate objects, survival, betrayal, rescue missions, a fight for justice, hunting the scavengers, combat and battle, adventure and space travel, a phantom emperor seeking domination, traitors, revenge, the need to end the Jedi war, battle between the Resistance movement and the 1st world order, death and finding one's true identity presented within a sci fi context. The themes such as those of fighting to the death and escaping a seemingly inevitable destiny, carry a mild to moderate impact sense of threat and menace that would be confusing, distressing and upsetting to children under 10 years who may not be cognitively and psychologically developed to process the complex themes. Parental guidance is recommended for children 10 - 12 years to provide context and re-assurance.

Ilan Preskovsky quote iconSo, yes, there is plenty wrong with The Rise of Skywalker, and it pales especially in comparison to this year’s other major climax of a beloved franchise, Avengers: Endgame (what a miracle that film was), but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t a massively entertaining, emotionally poignant conclusion to this particular story.

Jim Judy quote iconThe performances from the returning cast are fine and the production values, effects and score are not-surprisingly top-notch. I just wish the story was as well, but considering Abrams’ insistence over multiple films to put a new coat of paint on the walls where we’ve seen the material before, it’s not surprising that we get more of a rehash rather than something new. Diehard fans might be happy, but I found “Rise of Skywalker” just okay and clearly the lesser of the most recent “Star Wars” films.
