Agnes Browne

Agnes Browne In this funny and tender tale set in 1967, life is hard in the central Dublin neighborhood where the Browne family has always managed to get by. But with the unexpected death of her husband, Agnes Browne (Academy Award-winner Anjelica Huston) and her seven children are thrown into emotional turmoil and financial crisis.

To make ends meet, Agnes is forced to borrow money from a ruthless loan shark who has no sympathy -- or grace periods -- for widows or children. It's a tough time for the family, but Agnes refuses to give up, give in or get out... and finds herself coming of age.

To support her family, Agnes sells fruit and vegetables at a local open-air market. Her days are brightened by sharing laughs with her best friend Marion (Marion O'Dwyer) and dreaming of one day attending a Tom Jones concert. But any chance of a ticket to Tom Jones -- or happiness -- is remote until Agnes decides to make the best of her second chance at life and love.
