In the not so distant future a massive plague has killed almost everyone on the planet. Civilisation has collapsed and the world has been hurled into a new 'Dark Ages', where sex is a currency, slavery is a way of life and brute violence is often the only kind of justice.A small isolated private school for girls in the Vermont countryside has managed to survive with most of its students now grown to young adulthood. The women have taken refuge in the cavernous basements of the old ruined school. Their ageing teacher, Sister Helen, warns her students about the terrors of the roving predatory bands of slavers they must desperately try to avoid as they leave the school and begin their dangerous quest to Dakota Mountain, the last place in America where there is peace and safety.
Their journey will be long and frightening, and in the end, only the strongest will survive.
