Detroit, 1944. After welcoming Minnie McGhee (Lynn Whitfield) and her family into the neighbourhood, Anna Snipes (Linda Hamilton) is shocked to learn that the community -- even her own husband -- is plotting civil action to evict the McGhees because of their skin colour.
Anna and Minnie become close friends and that friendship is tested as each struggles with tensions rising around them. Anna must choose between standing up to her husband or surrendering to social pressure while Minnie, experiencing racial hatred, faces great hardships if she decides to stay and fight.
Now, Minnie and Anna must together find the strength to fight discrimination -- and the courage to make a difference.
