The Investigation deals with the tumultuous events surrounding the RCMP's quest for Canada's most notorious serial killer, Clifford Olson. The film reveals that in 1981, two young officers, each investigating separate cases, considered Olson the principal suspect. However, due to crossed wires and jurisdictional chaos, he was not arrested and continued his murderous rampage until he was finally apprehended and imprisoned.
