One hundred years ago, in a world divided into four nations (Air, Water, Earth, Fire), a young boy called Aang learned he was the new Avatar.Faced with the responsibility of stopping an impending world war, Aang fled from home on his animal guide, a flying bison called Appa. Caught by a fierce storm, they crashed into the ocean, and froze inside an iceberg. One hundred years later they are awoken by two siblings of the Southern Water Tribe, Katara and Sokka.
Aang learns that the Fire Nation has ravaged the world with decades of war and realizes that he must fulfil his destiny of becoming the Avatar and return balance to the world by defeating the Fire Nation army. Aided by Katara and her brother Sokka, Aang begins a perilous journey to restore balance to their war-torn world.
Standing in their way are Fire Nation Admiral Zhao and Prince Zuko, the banished Prince of the Fire Nation who seeks to capture the young Avatar to regain his honour.
