The Perfect Storm

Iceberg? what iceberg? Based on events which occured during a real "perfect storm" in the early 1990s, the main plot is about the fate of a small fishing vessel which gets caught out in the open ocean in the middle of a huge hurricane. Also caught up in the drama are a small family yacht, and the maritime rescue services.
A very wet movie, with strong links to "Titanic"...

129 minutes, Parental Guidance (Language).
Drama, Thriller.

Ian Douglas: I suppose my views are going to be in the minority again... I found this "very" average, with some seriously dodgy bits in the plot (cf. Kate chopping Leo's handcuffs with the axe in Titanic). There are very strong links to said Titanic, starting with the music. The special effects are good, but they don't really overcome the basic storyline, which is: some fishermen get caught in a storm. As other critics have pointed out, the subplots, which start suddenly in the middle of the film, do not really belong; I suppose they are there to try to add some human emotion to the story. In the end, a very wet film, without Titanic's emotional punch. The film made "The Patriot" look silly at the boxoffice, no doubt it will also do well here.

David Easterling (41): Zzzzz.. Amazing how the dramatic scenes as the crew battle for survival totally fail to have you clinging to the edge of your seat. Add to that a very meagre plot and clutch of stereotype characters and what is billed as a big spectacle turns into a yawn of a movie. A pity, because with better treatment this could have been an exciting (and inspiring) story.

Jessica Buchel(14): I feel this film was really pathetic besides for the great effects it was definitely not for teens. It seemed like they couldn't let the people in sticky situations die.

Mzolisi Mtshemla (21): It's perfect!
