Margin Call

Margin Call
This film is a thinly-disguised look at what happened at Lehman Brothers back in 2008, as the proverbial pawpaw hit the fan. Playing out over a period of 24 hours, we follow the tense situation as the magnitude of their financial situation is discovered, leading to stressful meetings and immoral actions as the firm and key players struggle to prevent its collapse, knowing full well the implications not only for themselves but also for the broader American and global economy.

ReelViews
James Berardinelli quote iconAt some point in the future, there will probably be a definitive documentary about the causes and effects of the economic seizure that lies at Ground Zero of Margin Call. That film will undoubtedly be equally fascinating and troubling. But it's doubtful it will provide the mixture of drama and suspense to be found in J.C. Chandor's assured directorial debut.
