Theresa Smith The art of telling a story well ...
Riëtte Grobler Sterk ensemble verspeel kanse
Todd McCarthy Fascinating film tells tale of effort to save art treasures hidden by Nazis
James Berardinelli One gets the sense that The Monuments Men might work better as a longer form project. There's simply too much going on to cram into two hours and the end result is a feeling that pieces of the tale are being skipped while others are rushed through.
Peter Travers What Clooney has crafted in The Monuments Men is a movie about aspiration, about culture at risk, about things worth fighting for. I'd call that timely and well worth a salute.
C. Fuchs While it's an admirable effort in terms of shining a light on this little known historical endeavor, The Monuments Men likely isn't going to be the first film someone grabs should any fire break out (or Nazis storm in looking for art to steal).
Tomatometer Its intentions are noble and its cast is impressive, but neither can compensate for The Monuments Men's stiffly nostalgic tone and curiously slack narrative.
