ViolenceThe material contains frequent, unrealistic, fantastical and magical violence, of low to mild impact with no noticeable effects such as blood-letting. The violence used by the fairies is magical, making use of superpowers and the violence used by humans involves weapons like bows and arrows but with magical ammunition which shows a pink colour when they hit the target.
PrejudiceInfrequent, low impact Prejudice, the folk of the Moors and Alstead fighting each other because of their differences, with positive outcomes of restoration, peace, unity and harmony in the two kingdoms.

CommentsA fantasy theme based on two separate kingdoms fighting each other because of their differences, but can only be united through one brave girl who believes in hope. The themes are light-hearted, fantastical and adventurous complex themes of an evil, power-hungry queen, rivalry and betrayal, lies and deceit by queen Ingrith’s plan to destroy the fairy world, war, manipulation which are mitigated by the positive themes of honesty, loyalty, King John’s quest to bring peace and harmony and unite the two kingdoms, motherhood, restoration, the phoenix rising and good overcoming evil. Set within the context of a fairy tale fantasy, with a low sense of threat and menace that may be confusing and upsetting to viewers younger than 7 years, there are positive outcomes of good triumphing over evil and a celebration of love.

Alex Isaacs quote iconI think that the thing to remember about this Disney film is that it's meant to be enjoyed with a sense of childlike wonder and bemusement because if you go in and cynically predict the script (which is filled with tropes) and then roll your eyes at all of the jokes you will have missed the point.

RSG
Leon van Nierop quote iconDie fliek is onewe en sommige tonele mis die boerpot, maar as ‘n Saterdagmiddag uit, en met ‘n slush puppy en sjokoladeballetjies sal MALEFICENT: MISTRESS OF EVIL so lekker soos jou eerste kinderpartytjie voel.

Tomatometer quote iconWhile it’s far from cursed, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil too rarely supports its impressive cast and visuals with enough magical storytelling to justify its existence.
